Fremantle Prison

Fremantle Prison is in the Port of Frematle about 45 minutes south of Perth.  Today it is the largest shipping port on the Western Coast of Australia.  The prison was built in 1852 by British Convicts and closed in 1990.
The Prison has house over 300,000 convicts in its history.  Built entirely out of the limestone hill its was carved out of.
Life inside the Prison was hard, and Solitary Confinement was brutal.

Just imagine being locked up in a room smaller than your average bathroom for 14 of 24 hours each day.  The rest of the time you were working or sleeping.

One of the most dangerous men that server here was allowed to paint is cell as a form of therapy.
